Fun day – mowing day. No such thing as doing quickly. Although it can be done, as long as you don’t think of anything else! First we must get everything out to the area. Mower (I think 4 stroke is best) needs a top up of fuel. Bin for all the clippings etc. Edger and blower. Gloves and clippers. Broom and shovel for those areas you don’t want blowing into neighbors.
Now the quick thing would be to edge and mow, but like I said, it’s never that simple! Noticed the roses need deheading. Also those freesias really could do with removing now. Oh, that’s right, I was going to pot some for a friend before I get rid of them for the season. So now we get some pots and good potting soil together and put those 2 colors she wanted in. Also need to do up some pots for me for the move. Have to include all colors. While I’m getting those cleared out I should make sure those odd weeds are out too. Speaking of weeds, there are a few unwanted weeds in the lawn. Using the handy weed puller (Grandpa’s weeder) they’re out in no time. While we’re into that, may as well do some aerating. Probably the best are those attached to your boots so you can walk around. Of course one has to go slowly or you’ll be pulling up chunks of earth.
Now onto the edging. Over the years have found the cordless trimmer to be the best as not restricted to the length of the cord. Blow most of that before the mow so doesn’t trample everywhere. Mowing different directions each week gives a better look – across, up and down, diagonal one way then the other. After mowing, blow again and sweep from neighbors edge. While mower cooling, put away all the tools. Now give mower a rinse off and put in sun to dry. Before putting the hose away give the potted plants a water.
